So, I got my degree, Yay!!!... on the down side though since my current employer paid for almost all of my college courses I have to stay employed with them for 2 years now :o( which I don't like in the least... I don't like feeling like someone has control over me... but that's the price I pay for a basically free education I guess!
So, in the meantime... while my 2 years is slowly ticking away, I've decided to concentrate on really growing my small business as well as finding other ways to make money from home so that hopefully when my two years is up I can gracefully transition into supporting myself with my creative business... yes, I know... it's a lofty dream (I've even been told that I can't do it)... but hey! A girl's gotta have dreams right?
I have my small business that "officially" started January 2012 and right now that consists of 2 Etsy shops (plus the one my mom and I have together). I won't bother you with links in this post but if you are interested in checking them out the links are over on my sidebar.
So, you're probably wondering why I am telling you all this ... right? Well, you may have noticed that a couple of my more recent posts contained affiliate links... this means that I have partnered with a company and send them referrals through links embedded in a blog post. When any of my readers click on an affiliate link in one of my posts and make a purchase, I will get a small commission from that sale. I have decided though, that to use an affiliate link in a post, it will have to be for something that I have actually purchased or would be happy to spend my own money on. One example was my recent post about the online photography class at Craftsy. This is something that I would have purchased because I'm trying to get better at my photography skills to help grow my business. The class is going pretty good so far by the way!
This is one of the ways I'm working on to try and generate some income for myself while I'm sitting at work hating the next two years! LOL! But don't worry, if you are a regular reader and like what I normally post about, I will still be doing all that... decorating my home is an ongoing process and making things is what I love.
Pay-per-click ads are another way that I'm experimenting with. There are some ads on my sidebar that are pay-per-click ads, served to you by Google AdSense. The ad that you see will be different from the one another reader sees because some how, some way Google knows what you might want to click on based on your web browsing history. Rates depend on the specific advertiser, but if you click on that ad, I will get paid – pennies. Literally.
If these things sound interesting to you and are something you might like to learn about then you will want to visit Moms Make Money. This link is not any benefit to me by the way, I just love her blog! Oh my goodness, Deby is the go-to gal for learning about this kind of stuff, she walks you through signing up for all sorts of money making opportunities with little videos and step-by-step instructions! In fact, I just learned about another opportunity from Deby that sounds so great and goes right along with this little cartoon:
Right??? I spent a ton of time on Pinterest already so why not make a little money on the side? You can check out for yourself on Vitaliti... and yes... I will eventually get paid if you sign up, but you will too! I figured it can't hurt to try.
So anyway, this post is getting kind of long, I know I've probably lost most people already... if you stuck through to the end, thank you for listening to me! I just wanted you to understand why all of a sudden you've started seeing some ads an other things appearing on my blog and know why I'm doing it.
